Yoga And Kids
Yoga in its broader understanding is the art of living. One who practices yoga is in harmony with nature, society and oneself. Asanas which are generally mistaken to be entire yoga take the third place while the rules, regulations, discipline, dos and donts called the "Yama" and "Niyama" come first. We complain that our kids aren't disciplined, they throw tantrums and misbehave.
We see, they lack concentration and are not steady to complete a given work.
We complain about their short attention span.
We compare our kids with others about their clumsiness and poor motor skills.
We are troubled that our kids often injure themselves, get wounded due to lack of spatial awareness.
We want them to have a good memory and physical strength and good immunity.
For these and many more issues, Yoga is the solution. A combo pack for most of your concerns and worries.
When kids are introduced to the concept of yoga at the early stage they learn discipline, and develop a liking towards or if not liking at least they will know the importance of yoga in maintaining health and calmness.
Yoga teaches kids to be aware of their bodies. While doing an asana, to attain that position one has to concentrate on particular body part. Thus improving their spatial and self awareness.
Surya Namaskara, which is a combination of twelve different poses is the best to develop right posture. One has to retain oneself in every single pose for a specific time, thus increasing endurance and this in itself is a meditation for kids as their complete attention is on their body and the pose they have to be in.
Every asana is to be done with proper breathing thus supplying pranvayu essential for the body and all the organs to work effectively.
Reciting Omkaar again floods you with pranvayu, making your lungs strong and building you strong internally. The effect of humming has very positive effect on the brain as well making your child alert.
The twists and bends of limbs and other parts improve flexibility and tone their muscles and help in strengthening bones.
Regular practice of any one among these also helps in reducing their hyperactivity and make them balanced internally, emotionally and physically.
We as elders know many things but many times we fail to apply it in a right way. Introducing yoga at a early age, practicing it and encouraging others and our kids will help us solve most of the concerns mindfully thereby letting us be at peace and also our kids.
