Simple Things You Can Do To Raise Grateful Kids

One can be happy by  being contented. When one is contented, one has the feeling of completeness. Feeling grateful comes from this, when you can see what you have and not crib on what you don't have.

Life is a mystery and who knows what unfolds in future. It depends how we accept and face every situation good and bad.

By instilling gratitude in kids, we are helping them to be stronger inside. Gratitude changes one's outlook towards life and helps in being happy and at peace.

Its not a big task or you dont have to take extra efforts to inculcate gratitude.  You can bring up grateful kids by doing some simple things along with your regular routine.

 Simple questions:
Asking simple questions like
 How was the day?
What made you happy?
What did you receive today?  will make them think.
Encourage them to tell you what they got like a compliment , a chocolate, help, pencil.
Encourage kids to tell the reason they were happy.

Small talks:
Have small talks regularly where you talk about some kind gesture by some one else or by you.

Discuss or share about any incident on that day when you or someone was in need of help. And how the situation could have been worse.

Stories: Narrate stories or get story books on gratitude. Stories show the emotions of the characters and kids get involved in those characters making it easy to learn values.

Share: Teach him to share his things with others. Give away the the stationery or clothes with underprivileged kids.
Visit occasionally to orphanages and donate your time or money or articles or your skill.
Teach him not to hoard things. Regularly decluttering the house and getting rid of unwanted items by you also serves a good lesson.

Surprise Sticky notes:
If your kids have helped you in any chores, or have done any kind work, stick a thank you note to his lunch box to into his pencil box or under his pillow. Mention the reason for being thankful.

Festivals as a tool: We celebrate Naagpanchami and Pola festivals where snakes and oxen are worshiped along with other rituals. This is to show gratitude towards these animals for helping us.

Similar festivals or ceremonies or practices which are followed in every religion. Make your kids aware of such customs from your as well as other religion. Do tell the significance of it.

You are the role model to your kids. So do not forget this and they are our own reflections.
Just following these simple things can be of great help in bringing up kind and grateful kids.
