 Many young , first time moms are very enthusiastic (I too was one). Many of them want their kids to learn even before they start going to preschool. Some are constantly in search of toys that are educational while some bring charts and picture books and educational cd. Though this is not wrong, kids may feel overloaded with the stuff. Though this is right, may be your toddler is not yet prepared to absorb everything you are trying to pour in. The stuff you want your kid to learn now may take longer whereas if the same thing is taught at the right age, he would be learning faster and without much effort. Should we really teach toddlers? Way back in 80s there were hardly few houses in our village who had TV. On the weekend there used to be movie in the evening telecasted by Doordarshan. I remember our hall used to be packed with neighbours acquaintances who came to watch the film. Cooking is an art as well as a science in itself. Though I am not here to teach the art and science of cooking, I would like to tell how a liking for art and science can be created in kids. I would like to tell how a sense of art, creativity and curiosity can be developed and how kitchen can be the best lab. Cooking can be complete fun with thorough exposure to all the sensory organs for a kid. Having a host of colours, textures, shapes, smell this can be a great teaching aid and can be used to develop the abilities of each type of learner. And of course it is a life skill, one of the survival skills which every one should know and the best time to learn is to start at younger age.
