Tongue Twisters: Importance in speech development.

Who doesn't remember "Kachha Paapad Pakka Paapad" scene from Amitabh bachan's film Yaarana. As kids we have enjoyed repeating these tongue twisters and had fun testing others and trying to catch them if they went wrong. Even now if we hear a tongue twister we immediately want to check whether we can repeat it correctly or not and yes we forget we have grown up. Tongue twisters are used by teachers , by professional speech therapists, by trainers, to improve speech of kids as well as grown ups. What is so special about tongue twisters? Tongue twisters have repeated words which bring a rhythm making it sound good and pleasing. Eg. A sailor went to sea sea sea, to see what he could see see see, but all that that he could see see see, was the bottom of the deep blue sea sea sea. They help in memorizing a new word. Its because when you do a thing repeatedly it gets imprinted in your brain and then its no longer new. They help in knowing the homophones ....

Teach Kids Time Management Skills

    If any one asked me what would I learn from a child, my answer would be "to live that moment". Yes, kids live in present. They get completely involved in the task at hand. Do you see children playing with fixtures and blocks or doll house or colouring or doing any craft activity, or even kids who are playing outdoor or in the garden, how engrossed they will be? Untill the concept of time is not introduced in your children's life, they learn happily. They enjoy the learning, the process. And then we bring in time, the task, the deadlines. The things your kids enjoyed doing before are now a mundane chore which they hate doing.      But as they grow their responsibilities increase and this is where their organisational skill and discipline will help them.
